Photography by local artist, Leslie Carson Wolfe
I've always enjoyed looking at family pictures, and I remember the first time I borrowed my mother’s twin lens reflex camera. It was the last day of my sixth grade school year. In junior high I learned to develop B&W film and by college I was studying photography along with drawing and sculpture. (I also studied French language and culture and completed a six-week Summer Study Abroad program in France.)
While living in Lawrence and raising my two wonderful children, I set up a portable darkroom at home. I was an active member in the Lawrence Photo Alliance, participating in group shows such as Kansas KC Camera, Art in the Park, and Lawrence ArtWalk. I have had a few small solo exhibits in Baldwin City, Lawrence, and Kansas City, Missouri, and have also been accepted into a few regional juried exhibits - Hays Five State, Art in the Woods, and the Second Kansas Triennial.
I began making cards in 1998 and showing them at Art in the Park in Lawrence. A few shops in downtown Lawrnece (the Palace Card and Gift Shop, the Raven Bookstore, and the Bay Leaf) carried them for several years, and after moving to Kansas City in 2004, my cards were sold at Bergamot and Ivy, Trapp and Company, and Crestwood Flowers. Before moving to Topeka in 2013, I studied digital imaging and film history for two years at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
Thank you to my family, friends, professors, and everyone who has encouraged my love of photography all these years! It is an honor and a pleasure sharing my photography with you.
